Title information

Co-authors Kevin Scott, the Fraternity’s Grand Historian, and Aaron Williams, also a member of the Fraternity, expand the rich and compelling saga of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., in the 6th Edition of the organization’s history book.

The book is a comprehensive account of the 110-year history (1911-2021) of the second oldest existing collegiate historically Black Greek letter organization. It chronicles the Fraternity’s struggles and successes, as well as it’s members, who have achieved in every field of human endeavor, such as civil rights activist Reverend Ralph Abernathy, former professional football quarterback and activist Colin Kaepernick, movie director John Singleton, professional basketball hall of famer Bill Russell, attorney Johnnie Cochran, television personality Marc Lamont Hill, gospel singer Marvin Sapp and U.S. Congressmen Bennie G. Thompson and Hakeem Jeffries, to name a few.

This latest published account takes its readers on a journey from the Fraternity’s humble beginnings as the only fraternity founded on the campus of Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. The publication shows the Fraternity’s transformation from a single chapter with ten members in 1911 into a global organization comprising over 600 chapters by 2021. The book highlights the trials and tribulations of the Fraternity’s founding, early expansion, the struggles it faced combating and overcoming racial disparities, and its attempts to remain solvent through World War I, the Great Depression, the Civil Rights Era, and other turbulent periods of American history.

The narrative displays the Fraternity’s resilience to overcome those obstacles and spotlights many of its members' accomplishments spanning 110 years – consistent with its fundamental purpose of achievement. The saga is accented by insightful quotes from the Fraternity’s Founders, past Grand Polemarchs, and other Fraternity luminaries. For this most recent volume, the authors revised the first 26 chapters with newly discovered historical information and added seven additional chapters. This edition also features recovered photos from the Fraternity archives that have not been seen for over 70 years.
